Worldbuilding
My original write-up of this show was paragraphs about my enduring love for Harold Perrineau, and how I'm so happy the show seems to be treating him well and giving him lots to do, etc, but 1) no one needs to read my incoherent thoughts on Harold Perrineau, and 2) given that I'm actually requesting Worldbuilding and not Boyd, it seemed a little out of place.
As much as I love all the characters in From, what I really want to see more of is the setting and the lore. The lighthouse, the visions some people seem to have, the society they built and rules they set in the time between Boyd's arrival and the start of the show, Victor's past...there's so much ripe for exploration, and I'm interested in all of it. If you want to use the characters we see in canon to explore, I'd love that, and if you want to create original characters, I'd love that too! Also, as much as it's a crapsack world they're stuck in, I love the moments of tenderness and relief and community the show gives us, so don't feel like you have to write all awful, all the time (unless you want to)
Prompts if you want them:
- What if someone put together a notebook full of theories of what's happening in the town? With the notebook being lost and found again over the years and people adding their own theories and commenting on previous theories?
- Has any previous group of people found the talismans and tried to make a life? Was it more communal or did one person or groups keep them for themselves? Are the talismans inherent to the world or were they created by people trapped there, and if the latter, how did they figure it out?
- Anything set during the period of establishing the rules and lives for the Town and Colony House
- The bottle tree! What is the deal there?
- Exploring Jade and Tabitha and Sara's visions- they're all different from each other, which is really interesting to me!
- Victor growing up and managing to survive
Withnail & I
Peter Marwood, Withnail
This movie is so difficult for me to recommend to people and I love it so much. Richard E Grant and Paul McGann are brilliant, and their relationship is fascinating and hilarious and tragic. They have history between them, and their lack of work, and they're so careless with each other while still, on some level, caring deeply. Also, they both seem to be fairly bad at being people, which makes their choice of career even more interesting to me.
I do ship them, in a trainwreck sort of way where there's a level of misery and codependence. But I'd also be delighted to receive something that explores their relationship further, whether that be in the past or a future where they end up meeting again.
Prompts if you want them:
- Always and forever- bad sex. Just the worst, really. The two of them coming together for whatever reason and even if the feelings are there the experience is just awful and humiliating for one or both of them. Erectile dysfunction or premature ejaculation or teeth where they shouldn't be or technically it could be worse but for whatever reason it's still awful. Crying maybe?
- Pining/feelings realization, whether that be to themselves or to each other. I'm a sucker for these stories and would love to see something at any point in canon (esp as post-canon there would be the shadow of their failed holiday between them)
- How they met and the start of their friendship- Withnail, particularly, is a difficult person, so I'd love to see how they got to where they are
- Post-canon- does Marwood's career really take off, or was it just a one-time thing? Does Withnail at least pretend to pull himself together, or get even worse? How do they meet up again?
The Lion in Winter
Geoffrey Plantagenet, Philip II
Geoffrey was my favorite character in the movie, and young Timothy Dalton was a huge babe, and history said they were pretty close for a while, and I ship it. Geoffrey trying to manipulate everyone in sight and Phillip not doing a bad job of it himself makes for interesting possibilities. I really just love all the political machinations and high drama and would love to see anything with them as allies or even enemies! The rest of the messed-up Plantagenets are definitely more than welcome to come along, too.
Prompts if you want them:
- There are a number of fics out there already about Geoffrey swearing fealty to Philip and the two of them engaging in subtle scheming and one-upmanship, and also sex is involved and whoops feelings. I love these stories and would be delighted to read another one.
- Being self-indulgent for a moment- political hostage AU? Where Geoffrey is kind of the worst hostage, because Richard and Eleanor don’t really care about him, and this is a poke in the eye to both him and to France (“oh sure, we’ll give you a hostage…this spare son”). How would this change things? What awful bitterness and scheming would there be? How long has Geoff been in France, and does this affect Henry’s rebellion or Richard’s time in France?
- Missing scenes from the movie! Scheming, smooching, swordplay, talking about Eleanor and Alais and the whole messed up family situation…anything.
- Ghost story! After Geoffrey’s death, he decides to come back and haunt Philip. Or he doesn’t decide to, but finds his spirit is bound to Philip and they’re both kind of put out by it.
Always Crashing in the Same Car
James Booth, Bill Mackinnon
I love this short, with Jim's panic and desperation and Bill's almost unsettling calm. How many other panicked calls in the middle of the night have there been, and what has Bill made Jim do in exchange for having everything taken care of? Does he keep holding the tapes over Jim's head?
Prompts if you want them:
- It's implied in the short that Bill has been the man behind the curtain for several years. How did it start? Did he handpick James, or has Bill always gone after the person at the top, whoever they are? Both options are really interesting to me.
- What does Bill do with the tapes? Are there any further instances of James fucking up and Bill cleaning up after him? Post-short fic would be great!
- I like the canon setting, but also...space opera AU
- Just straight up smut
Ravenous
Boyd, Ives
I love this movie, with it's fun score and weird, dark humor, and how cannibalism is a metaphor for so many things. I love Guy Pearce's beautiful face and Robert Carlyle's wonderful dark eyes. The ending is perfect for the movie and the themes of the movie, but I want more! I definitely ship Boyd/Ives (the scene where Ives dips his fingers in Boyd's blood and I thought he was going to just lick them, but instead he shoves them in his mouth? Good lord). Feel free to lean into any of the themes of the movie.
Prompts if you want them:
- Alternate ending- perhaps they come back wrong(er), perhaps that scene went down a little differently, but they're both alive. What would happen? Would Boyd try and keep Ives on some sort of leash? Does Ives corrupt Boyd? Do they go their separate ways? Do they have some sort of half-sexual Tom and Jerry style relationship where they're constantly trying to murder one another?
- Ives backstory! Or Ives POV of the movie
- Canon divergence from earlier in the movie where for whatever reason there's a longer delay between Colqhoun's arrival and the massacre? Colqhoun and Boyd developing some sort of relationship/bond and then...the reveal
